Perfect dark reboot12/27/2023 I think we get the sprawling neo-Chicago but just not in this game and the throwback comes in the sequel. Just make neo-Chicago the new Delaware (the place companies go to incorporate and open their HQ) but in this world, Delaware is wiped out in the global floods that have submerged the US coasts and the corporations have to move their HQs to Chicago as part of the largest economical/corporate migration in US history. Intense blizzards and super tornados could be an issue for the City due to the lake effect since it is situated on Lake Michigan, but hey, I'm no future eco-scientist. Again, my Arkham Asylum to Arkham City analogy.įor sure, a futuristic sci-fi metropolis would be awesome! I think Chicago would still hold up well as the location too, since it's geographic location could avoid the costal flooding and wildfires that seem to be plaguing the planet in this world. This way we save an expanded city environment for a second game, where The Initiative can really go wild with their established tech. I'm crazy, I know, and it might be a bit "hack" or corny but I kind of dig. from pre-jump prep, the jump, hitting the camo when exiting the clouds and then sticking the landing in the city to begin the game) (At the start of the sequel, we play this entire plane sequence in first person. "cruel, cruel, world" (music from the reveal trailer kicks in) and at the center, the dataDyne logo towers over the others. The camera continues to pull back to reveal city skyline packed with skyscrapers, each with a distinct corporate logo. We pull out of the visor to see Joanna exit the cloud and she engages her camo. flying cars are whizzing by in the reflection. Joanna is falling though the cloud and then the audio suddenly goes crystal clear, no crackling or hissing, and two words are said.Ĭlose up on Joanna's visor as beads of water stream across, we see the reflection of the clouds part to reveal a bristling neon soaked city below. "We need you back, the Board wants to move fast given the recent developments. Joanna continues her fall and pierces a cloud "The situation is a write off, forget Dark, we'll deal with her and the Carrington Institute later. As we follow her descent, a crackling audio message in a modulated voice is played: The camera follows her out of the cargo bay. She puts on her helmet and the windy noise instantly goes silent. We see Joanna eye's through the screen and she cocks an eyebrow.Īn airplane cargo door opens and it reveals Joanna's silhouette on the night sky, high above the clouds. the "From" we can make out and it, simply, says. Cut to a camera shot from behind the display, we can see the "To" and "From" field's. Close up of a "Play" button as she clicks it. Joanna walks over to the computer and it's got one of those see-through display monitors that's so hot in the future. We see close up of a "New message" alert displayed in the the system tray. An alert goes off and she turns her attention to a computer at an ornate desk (the antagonist's desk of course). Plot of the first game wraps ups, the crisis is averted and we see Joanna completing a data dump at a terminal in the aftermath before the authorities arrive and her extraction. Oh and I don't think we going to get this ending and tease if it's more than one location: I think The Initiative could be on a similar trajectory if they achieve success with this first game and I think a focused approach on one location would help get them to that goal. I mean, I had been following the game industry for almost two decades and I had no clue who Rocksteady were when they announced their first Batman game. So, start small and focused and then use that knowledge/tech to expand in a sequel. These locations still hold a special place in my gaming conscience because they were so well realized and if The Initiative can be one of the firsts to make a next-gen Rapture-like world, I think they will have something special on their hands. Make the dataDyne building (and surrounding area) feel like a real life location and dense, like Arkham Asylum or Rapture but on next generation steroids. I think it might be best to take an almost Rocksteady approach from Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. That said, I still think it will be one location and it being Egypt/Cairo/dataDyne building. I would love multiple locations and definitely see the reasoning and history behind this speculation.
